About George Stilabower

One of my favorite things to do as a child was to get out my art box. It contained markers, coloring books, construction paper, glue, scissors and other materials. I could play for hours, creating anything I wanted. Sure, I enjoyed coloring, but I also liked to melt my crayons and spread the color over different types of paper. I had a small bulletin board, but I didn’t use it as intended. I created these rather intricate scenes, maybe a theme for spring, or a scene from a book I was reading, stapling and pinning different pieces of art to the cork.

By the time I went to Indiana University, English and writing had become important to me, and I majored in journalism. A few classes in photojournalism brought me back to my imaginitive art adventures as a child, but the deadline cycle didn’t suit me. More classes in magazine editing, broadcasting, psychology and advertising rounded out my interests. After graduation, I taught journalism, English, publication design and editing, and photography at South Pasadena High School in Los Angeles. I developed a strong program that won numerous prestigious awards, and I was a presenter at many national conventions. Then UC Berkeley called, and I managed a student publishing program there for five years. Academia ran its course and I moved to New York, where I worked as a graphic designer, editor, and publications consultant.

By early 2003, I knew I really wanted to be more creative in my work and that’s when my long-time role as photography enthusiast turned professional. I still maintain a few clients in publishing, but most of my work is shooting parties, portraits, and interiors. More recently, I’ve been editing my “pleasure” work into a group of fine art images.

In a way, I feel as though I’ve come full circle, even though my visual side has always been active in my work one way or another. I still enjoy working with a few clients in the publishing and design fields. Through early 2012, I will add many new galleries of special projects and personal assignments.

I truly enjoy my work and take pride in creating images that represent the best..whether it’s a portrait, room, celebration, event or work of art.
